Pixies – Album Covers

September 23, 2009

I’m incredibly excited that this most seminal of bands is FINALLY making their way to these fair shores early next year. While their influence on modern alternative music is undeniable, another aspect of the band that is worthy of mention is the incredible design that packaged their art.

Julian Casablancas – New Single & Album Cover

September 19, 2009

The Strokes’ front-man’s debut solo album is set for release in the UK & US on the 19th and 20th of October respectively – I cannot wait to hear it!! Check out the album cover below, and click here to hear a preview of his brilliant first single – “11th Dimension”! Enjoy!!

Artist Spotlight – Kazuki Takamatsu

September 19, 2009

These images have appeared all over the internet recently, but I love them so I’m posting them here too! It was very difficult to find any information about the works and the artist behind them – I found his website and the website of the gallery the works were showing in, but alas both are in Japanese. Apparently he describes the style as “Distanfeerism”, and while they look digitally rendered are actually hand-painted! He was born in 1978 and graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design.

Absolut Advert

September 19, 2009

This advert has some beautiful real-life typography on display. The YouTube description reads: “A group of artists come together in locations around the world to create art pieces that spell out the philosophy of Absolut Vodka” – which sums it up pretty well. Click on one of the screenshots to see the video – and from the YouTube page you can view separate clips on how each word was created. Enjoy!

Can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the band, but the music video is an amazing and cool work of art! Check it out here.

Sliding House, Suffolk, by dRMM

September 8, 2009

Designed by architect Alex de Rijke from dRMM for owner Ross Russell. This video profile was put together by Wallpaper* Magazine to show off the unique physical attributes of this rather unique structure – as they say in their written blurb: “A structure that has the ability to vary or connect the overall building’s composition and character according to season, weather or simply a desire to delight.” Click on the image to view, or click here for the YouTube version.

The Illustrations of Tyler Stout

September 8, 2009

I first discovered Tyler’s work on Slashfilm – a poster for the new Quentin Tarantino movie Inglourious Basterds – and was blown away by the composition, detail, and wonderful throwback quality to the illustrative cult movie posters of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. You can actually buy his works as limited edition prints, though it seems you have to be in quick as they sell out quickly.

Check out his site for more information and examples of his lovingly crafted work: Click here.
