From the upcoming movie directed by Gaspar Noé, Enter The Void‘s opening credits are a relentless overload to the senses. If the movie is anything like this sequence, it should be quite a trip.

Best Of Custom Letters 2009

February 9, 2010

Lettercult, a fantastic website devoted to custom typographical design, has been hard at work compiling their favourite works of 2009. From the reasonably large group on display here (well worth your time to take a look – there is some truly awesome work), they impressively managed to choose a top 10. A great place to visit when in need of some inspiration! This is a small selection of works from their “best of” lists.

2009 Annual Report by Feltron

February 2, 2010

These intricately detailed graphics are taken from a personal annual report by Feltron, a New York designer with a passion for infographics, whom after every single  meaningful encounter with someone, each day during 2009, asked for them to submit a record of this meeting through an online survey. “From parents to old friends, to people I met for the first time, to my dentist… any time I felt that someone had discerned enough of my personality and activities, they were given a card with a URL and unique number to record their experience.” The finished work is stunning, and available for purchase through his site. More pics after the jump.

“Thank You For Smoking” Title Sequence

December 17, 2009

I was doing some research for a project, looking at classic cigarette packaging for inspiration, when I recalled the great opening sequence for the film “Thank You For Smoking”, and upon review it is every bit as good as what I remembered. Beautiful typographic work capturing the look and style of old-school cigarette packaging, created by Shadowplay Studio.

“Neon Boneyard” by Pam Sattler

December 11, 2009

This set of images really caught my eye – there is something really beautiful about these once grand signs that advertised the glitz and glamour of a different time, now abandoned and rusting away under the desert sun. See the whole set here.

“Conundrums” by Harry Pearce

December 7, 2009

This week sees the release of Harry Pearce‘s “Conundrum” book – a collection of fun and visually engaging typographical puzzles where he allowed himself only one box, two colours and a single typeface to realise them. I was very fortunate to hear Harry speak at the Semi-permanent ’09 event in Auckland, where he discussed his work in great detail including the source of inspiration for these visual games – something he has been working on for some time. I have included a video after the jump of him speaking at the Wellington event – a very interesting and enjoyable watch.
